Anyone for Cricket

Our Wynnum Men’s Shed is privileged in being located on the picturesque Esplanade at Wynnum North.  Our lease was granted by the Brisbane City Council in 2016. As such, we enjoy beautiful bay breezes in summer and pleasant warm sunshine on winter mornings.

Being located right on the foreshore and enjoying all the elements, we obviously needed to have a weather vane.

We therefore constructed and mounted a weather vane on one of our sheds.  Our weather vane is a half scale replica of the Father Time weather vane at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

The original one at Lords is about 1.98 metres tall.  Ours is half scale.

Erecting Father Time on our Shed

The original Father Time has now been at Lords for almost 100 years, having been originally donated by the architect of the Lords Grandstand, Sir Herbert Baker, in 1926.  Originally it was on the old Grandstand but has now been relocated to the Mound Stand.  It has been witness to many memorable test matches – including quite a few involving Australia .

Our Father Time at Wynnum

Despite having been damaged a couple of times and also being relocated, it remains as probably the most iconic image of this famous historic ground.
