Our Indigenous Community & the Shed
The Wynnum Manly & Districts Men’s Shed Inc have a great relationship with the indigenous community in our area. We do a lot of work making clapping sticks, boomerangs, and other small jobs for Ridgy Didge. They are a part of the Quandamooka people. In return they hold a raffle and donate the proceeds to us.
One of the elders Auntie Jillian Jacob has done the Welcome to country at our shed when we have functions, they also help us whenever possible.
We also supply to their artist Troy Little some sample paints that have been donated to us, Troy is a well known artist here and overseas. We have a trophy that we were awarded “ The Tom Burns Trophy” from 2014, this is some of Troy’s handywork, it takes pride of place in our Men’s Shed office.
The Wynnum Manly & Districts Shed acknowledges this Country and its Traditional Custodians. We pay our respects to the Elders, those who have passed into the dreaming; those here today; those of tomorrow.
